Frequently Asked Questions
Any basic instructions or guidance on how to use this software?
TheReadTime was designed from the ground up with simplicity and ease of use in mind. Just 10-15 minutes of usage (or playing around?) will give you a solid grasp of the software, enabling you to fine-tune it to your needs. Instructions on basic functionality like speed reading and enabling text-to-speech can be found here: Usage Instructions
I find the context display feature a bit confusing. Explain like I am 5 ?
The context display feature of our speed reader has 3 modes: Off, Single-Line and Multi-Line. Below is a visual representation of how the speed reading space looks like in each of these modes:
Off : When context mode is off, only the defined number of words are displayed at the center of the screen. This is what we refer to as the focal text.
Single-Line: In single-line mode, in addition to the single word or phrase (depending on the chosen words at a time value), we see a trailing line of text in lighter shade for context.
Multi-Line: In multi-line mode, we see 6 additional lines before and after the focal and trailing line of text for even greater context.
Why can’t I read at 2 or more words at a time when text to speech (TTS) is on?
Currently, text to speech only supports 1 word at a time. When you enable TTS via the toggle button, the words at a time value on the speed reader defaults to 1 by design.
Are certain advanced settings unavailable when text to speech (TTS) is enabled?
Yes, by design, the below two settings do not apply when TTS is enabled:
- Sentence End Punctuation Pause Time
- Read Titles at Once
